- Halifax Solar Installation
Why Go Solar in Halifax?
Halifax homeowners are going solar to cut long-term electricity costs and lock in more control over their monthly bills—without changing how their home runs day to day.
The key in Halifax isn’t just sunshine—it’s smart design. Coastal weather, roof angles, and seasonal production all affect output, so we design around your real usage and site conditions (not best-case assumptions). Then we handle permits, inspections, and Nova Scotia Power steps from start to finish. If credits or rebates apply to your address, we’ll confirm what’s available during your assessment so you’re not guessing.
- Why Halifax Solar Installation?
Why Halifax Homeowners Go Solar
The win isn’t just “panels on a roof.” It’s a system designed for your usage and roof layout that cuts what you buy from the grid, earns bill credits when you overproduce, and keeps paying you back year after year—especially as electricity rates change.
Offset Consumption
Generate power during daylight hours and reduce the amount you buy from the grid—especially during higher-use seasons.
Boost Home Value
A well-designed solar system can make your home more attractive to buyers and support stronger resale value.
Beat Rate Hikes
Solar helps hedge against rate increases by replacing part of your monthly bill with predictable, long-term production.
Zero Upfront Cost
With financing, many homeowners can start with little to no upfront payment and spread costs over time.
Government Incentives
We help you identify and apply for eligible rebates and credits to reduce your overall project cost.
Go Green
Cut carbon emissions by powering your home with renewable electricity generated right from your roof—year after year.

How Solar Works (and How You Save)
01
Solar produces power during the day
Panels generate electricity in daylight; your property uses that power first, lowering the amount you purchase from grid.
02
You pull from the grid when needed
When solar output drops or demand rises, the grid automatically supplies the difference—so everything runs normally & automatically.
03
Excess Production May Earn Credits
If you produce more than you use, excess energy may flow back and earn credits under program rules.
When your system produces extra power, it can flow back to the grid and turn into credits that help lower future bills.

Unlock More Savings With Credits, Rebates & Financing
Solar in Halifax doesn’t have to mean a massive upfront payment. The smartest solar installs stack every advantage available—Nova Scotia Power net metering credits, rebates where eligible, and low-interest financing through Financeit if you want predictable monthly payments. Submit your info and we’ll confirm what applies to your address, then show it clearly in your proposal—no surprises.
NOVA SCOTIA POWER: NET METERING CREDITS
When your solar produces more than you’re using, that extra power can flow back to the grid and show up as bill credits. You use those credits later when your home needs more electricity—so your sunny-day production keeps working for you after the sun goes down.
EFFICIENCY NOVA SCOTIA: SOLAR REBATES
Update: The SolarHomes program is now closed to homeowners. Efficiency Nova Scotia stopped accepting new applications on April 17, 2025. Efficiency Nova Scotia approved projects must be completed by March 31, 2026 to be eligible for financial incentives. Efficiency Nova Scotia continues to accept new applications from registered non-profit organizations and charities.
Some Halifax-area projects may qualify for rebates through Efficiency Nova Scotia. When available, SolarHomes has offered $0.30 per watt (DC) up to a maximum of $3,000 (up to 10 kW).
We’ll confirm eligibility for your property and build the rebate savings directly into your quote so you see the real net cost upfront.
LOW-INTEREST SOLAR FINANCING (FINANCEIT)
Prefer monthly payments instead of a big upfront cost? We offer low-interest financing through Financeit (OAC). We’ll show payment options during the proposal review so you can choose the setup that fits your budget—without sacrificing equipment quality.
HALIFAX SOLAR CITY: MUNICIPAL FINANCING (10-YEAR TERM)
Want solar without a big upfront payment? Halifax’s Solar City Program can help eligible property owners finance a solar installation through the municipality—so you can spread the cost over time and keep more cash in your pocket.
Here’s the big win:
10-year payment term with a fixed interest rate (4.75%)
You can combine other incentives with municipal financing to help cover upfront costs
The charge is applied to the property (not the person), and can be paid off anytime without penalty
During your free quote, we’ll confirm whether your property is a fit and show how Solar City would change your monthly payment options—clearly, no guessing.
(Note: Solar City uses a Local Improvement Charge added separately from your property tax bill.)

Halifax Solar Installation FAQs
How much does a Halifax solar installation cost?
Halifax solar installation costs depend on your roof size, shading, and how much electricity you use. Most homes fall into a “right-sized” system range that’s designed to offset a meaningful portion of your bill without overbuilding. During your free quote, we’ll build a custom design and show your exact system size, expected production, payback timeline, and monthly payment options (if you want financing).
Does Halifax solar qualify for rebates or incentives?
Incentives can change and eligibility depends on the program rules and your property. When you request a free solar quote, we’ll check what’s currently available for Halifax/HRM and confirm what you qualify for before you move forward. If anything applies, we’ll include it clearly in your proposal so there are no surprises.
How does net metering work with Nova Scotia Power?
With net metering, your Halifax solar system can generate power during the day and offset what you’d normally buy from the grid. If you produce more than you use at certain times, the extra can be sent back and credited under Nova Scotia Power’s program rules. We’ll explain exactly how it applies to your home and design your system so the numbers make sense for your usage.
Do I need permits for solar panels in Halifax/HRM?
Yes—solar installations typically require permits and inspections, and there are also utility requirements for interconnection/net metering. The good news: we handle the paperwork and coordinate the process for you. You get a clean, code-compliant installation without the headache.
Will solar work in Halifax winters and cloudy weather?
Yes. Solar panels still produce power on cloudy days—they just produce less than on full-sun days. Halifax performance is all about smart design: roof orientation, shading, and system sizing for seasonal production. We model your expected output across the year so you know what to expect before installing.
What size solar system do I need for my Halifax home?
System size depends on your annual electricity usage, roof space, shading, and your goals (partial offset vs maximum offset). We design around your actual consumption and roof layout, then show expected production and offset in your proposal.
Can I add a battery for backup power?
Absolutely. A battery can provide backup power for essential loads during outages and can be added alongside solar (or added later, depending on your setup). We’ll walk you through battery options, what it can run, and whether it makes sense for your goals and budget.
Do you install commercial and agricultural solar in Nova Scotia?
Yes. We install solar for residential, commercial, and agricultural properties all across Nova Scotia? Project requirements vary (roof type, electrical service, load profile), so we start with an assessment and build a proposal tailored to your site.
Do you offer financing for solar in Halifax?
Yes — financing is available for Halifax solar installations if you prefer predictable monthly payments instead of a large upfront cost. During your free assessment, we’ll show payment options alongside your projected savings so you can choose the setup that fits your budget.
